The Holiday Ferrets Guide to Oroklini Larnaca, Cyprus

Introduction
Oroklini is a small village in Cyrus and falls under the district of Larnaca. Due to the village´s coastal location and closeness to Larnaca Airport and town, it is rapidly becoming a popular tourist attraction and a prime spot for relocation.
As a result, Oroklini is seeing a rapid growth in places to eat and attractions and activities for tourists. It easily caters for the more adventurous water sport activities, and it has also made the most of it rich cultural heritage.
Scuba Diving
If you are an experienced diver or want to learn the craft to experience the wonders of the deep, there are two scuba diving centres within easy reach of Oroklini. DGR Scuba Diving caters for beginners and the experienced diver, and the centres runs nine different courses for the first timer to the diver that has his or her eye on becoming a PADI Divemaster.
Amphora Scuba Diving Centre in Kyrenia North Cyprus is a short ride away from Oroklini, and offers similar courses to DGR Scuba Diving but provides additional courses on emergency response and technical diving aspects. One of the bonuses about this diving centre is that its dive sites have some of the most beautiful coral reef formations in the Mediterranean.

Sadko Tourist Submarine
For those of you who do not fancy wet suits and masks, the Sadko tourist submarine can take you into the deep without the need of a towel afterwards. The Russian built and designed sub will take you to the wreck of the 180m ferry the “Zenobia” which sank in 1980.
The sub conforms to all international safety standards and has a top speed of 3 knots. If you ever wondered what it is like to be a submariner but are too old, too young, or afraid of the navy, then this could be a travel excursion not to miss.
Trips are an hour long and the last trip leaves at 1.30pm.
Archaeology and History
Cyprus’s rich cultural heritage is depicted well in several museums around the country. One of the best and near Oroklini is the Pierides Archaeological Foundation Museum. The museum takes its name from its founder Dimitrios Pierides who founded it in 1839. At that time many Cypriot artefacts were being stolen by tomb robbers, the most famous of which is Luigi Palma di Cesnola, Larnaca’s first U.S consol. Thanks to his pilfering efforts, the New York Metropolitan Museum houses some famous artefacts from Cyrus.
The museum itself has arranged artefacts chronologically and the first exhibit is the world famous howling man. The exhibit dates back to 5000-5500BC and its use whether religious or secular is yet to be determined by archaeologists.
The museum documents and displays exhibits from the Neolithic period together with exhibits from Mycenaean/Achaean period, the Iron Age, the Roman occupation, the Byzantine period, Crusader period, Lusignan period, Venetian period, and the Ottoman period. 
The Agios Lazaros Byzantine Museum is located next to a 10th century stone church of Agios Lazaros and they are both situated in the centre of Larnaca town. Despite losing many priceless artefacts during 1964 to 1970 when they were moved for safe keeping to Larnaca Fort, where upon changing administration from Greek to Turkish and then back to Greek ownership they had disappeared, the museum still houses a fine collection of artefacts and history from the Byzantine period. Most of the items on display were donated by Russian clerics.
Quad Bikes
Based near Larnaca town, Quad Bike Safari organises quad bike tours of the surrounding area for tourists and corporate events. The tours are instructor led and take in the beauty and ruggedness of parts of Cyprus which are a little off the tourist route.
Prior to trekking off the instructors will show riders of all ages how to operate the bike and the training includes riding on different types of terrain.
Trips are two hours long and operate twice daily.
